Scrawny the Classroom Duck was a funny but sad book. Scrawny was a hatchling in John Fredrick Felix Elijah Forest's classroom. The students had a memorable time learning about their new friend. John got to take Scrawny home and developed quite the friendship with him. The duck got out one day and stuck in a ventilation shaft. It was in the floor and the whole school had to help get him out. The janitor said, "If we turn on the furnace, we'll have fried duck in the vents!" They coaxed him out with potato chips! The story got sad when Scrawny got bit by Tweetsy the neighbor's dog! Scrawny was getting loud, learning to fly and his feather were changing. It was time for him to migrate. By the end of the book, the main character, John, figured out that Scrawny was a girl duck! John and his teacher helped Scrawny back into the wild. At first, Scrawny did not want to leave but did by the end of the summer. |
"I think the funny part was when they were trying to leave Scrawny at the pond but he keeps following them back", Nolan explained.
Ariana says, "My favorite part is when Scrawny is waking everyone up at night!"
"I liked when John sister's were yapping at Scrawny because he was keeping them up", Hugh says.
